Loose Ends

Just one of my unfinished projects……

The last couple weeks have been really heavy.  This week I want to focus on the loose ends that I tend to leave for another day.  I tend to put off the seemingly unimportant parts of tasks that I don’t want to do.  I guess it is laziness or just apathy, but I am guilty of it.

I consider myself above average at getting things done.  The only problem is that I am typically struggling to actually be done.  I tend to be excited about a project, get started, complete the vast majority of the work, and then lose interest and put off finishing the final details for way too long.  I know it is a problem, but I still do it over and over again.

This past week, I was faced with the reality that putting things off only creates more problems in the future.  It was some quality system things at work that taught me the lesson, things that were not even my fault, but got the point across.  We need to finish our projects and take care of business in a timely manner.  It doesn’t really matter what you are working on, finish it.

That goes beyond working on projects as well.  How many times have you told someone you would have lunch or dinner with them, and it doesn’t happen?  Or how about you think about reaching out to a friend and you never get around to doing it?  What about your spouse? Is there anything you have been neglecting in your marriage or relationship?

The principle of finishing what you start and not neglecting the things that must be done is a powerful one.  If you can master it, you will be far ahead of the majority of people.  It’s nothing new or spectacular, but it is very important.

This week take on the tasks you have been putting off.  No matter what they are and make a plan to complete them.  It will lighten your load and allow you to put energy into new and bigger projects heading your way!
