New Year, No Limits…

Peyto Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Well, the new year is almost here. I have spent a lot of time reflecting on the past year. Some great things happened, and some awful terrible things happened. I’ve won and lost. I have succeeded and failed. I am also confronted with the harsh reminder of our new normal in our home. I am also challenged with how to make our new normal the best it can be.

For things to change in our lives, we must be open to change. I know that sounds redundant but hear me out. Change is hard, scary, and uncomfortable for most people. We like our routines, and our safety nets. When we choose to enact change in our lives it leaves us open to failure, hurt, and embarrassment. It also gives us opportunities to grow in every area of our lives.

I have spent the second half of this past year enacting changes in my life. Some big and some small. I am already seeing the benefits of my decisions. I have some big dreams, but I also have the inner critic saying that they will never come to pass. I am drawing a line in the sand today. I will no longer listen to the reasons why my dreams will not be fulfilled.  Next year my goal is to not limit myself to what I think is possible for my family to accomplish.  Anything and everything is possible with good decisions, hard work, and God in your corner.

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

I love verse 20. “Through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more that we might ask or think”. How cool is that? Infinitely more, I don’t know about you, but I can’t quite comprehend the scope of that statement. That means that no matter what dreams or ideas we come up with, it is not even close to what is possible.

Going into the new year, focus on not putting limits on yourself. Be bold and courageous. Go change the world in a big way!
