Spinning Your Wheels…

I can’t be the only one who feels like they are working but can’t get any traction.  I go through periods of time where I feel like no matter how hard, or how much time I invest into work or any other goals, it just ends up the same.  It is genuinely frustrating but at the same time it prepares us for something better.

True success isn’t given; it must be earned.  When someone gets a quick and easy win, typically, it doesn’t stick around long enough to truly change their life.  It is more like a one hit wonder, or 20 minutes of fame.  Enough to get the rush from success, but not enough to make real change in our lives.  I used to get upset every time that happened and eventually just felt stuck and depressed.  These days I see it as grooming for something better in the future.

These days we are used to getting everything now.  From streaming shows and movies whenever we want, google, YouTube, grocery and food delivery, etc.  Everything these days is focused on getting us whatever we want in the shortest amount of time.  It has really gotten us spoiled.  I’m 42 and can remember riding in the back window of my grandmother’s car.  I recall plenty of road trips that consisted of endless hours of looking at the window and searching for anything new or different because that was the only thing there was to do.  I remember going to the library and searching the card catalog or looking at an encyclopedia trying to find information about a subject.  Those days taught us patience, self-determination, and gave us a work ethic.

I am guilty of falling into taking the easy road sometimes.  These days it is so easy to coast on technology or simply order a quick fix vs putting in the work myself.  The results are never the same as when I truly put in the work to achieve whatever I am working on at the time.  That’s why I don’t get discouraged when I feel like I’m spinning my wheels.  I see it as me putting in the work or earning my success in whatever it is I am working towards.

The Bible is full of verses talking about this very subject.

“Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave” Proverbs 12:24

“Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.” Proverbs 13:4

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Colossians 3:23

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.  At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t’ give up.” Galatians 6:9

We are meant to work hard and do good things.  We were designed to serve others and be a light in the world.  When we take the time and effort to do things in excellence, it is obvious and others will take notice.  This week, I encourage you to do everything you do in excellence.  No more just good enough, no more barely scraping by.  Take even the most mundane tasks on your plate this week and hit it out of the park.
