The GAP…

Indian Creek Reservoir.

We often find ourselves not quite where we want to be at any given time.  We fall short of our own expectations.  Sometimes it’s procrastination.  Other times it’s fear.  If we look deep enough into ourselves, we can find what the root cause is.

I like to call that space between where we are and where we want to be “The Gap”.  The gap will be different for each and every one of us.  We can even have multiple gaps in our lives.  Isn’t that comforting?

The good news is the gap is where you can prove to yourself you are capable of growing.  That is the proving ground for you to become the person you want to be.  Without the gap, we will stay exactly where we are.  The gap is necessary, although not always fun.

This week I found myself feeling lost, and incapable of achieving my goals.  I saw the gap as a huge canyon without any chance of me getting across.  I honestly am not sure why I felt that way.  I typically charge head on into challenges and think about it later.  Sometimes it works out good, other times it doesn’t, but either way I don’t sit on the sidelines doing nothing.  I found myself having thoughts of giving up on my dreams of having my own business, failing at another skill I am currently working on, and not wanting to dig into the bible.

I am not sure why this past week was like that, but it seems as though when I try to make positive changes, something seems to fight to keep me held back in the shadows.  I have written about my views on spiritual warfare a while back and here it is again in my life.  The good news is that I can see myself getting in these ruts and I know how to get myself out of them.

That’s where the gap comes in.  I must step out into the gap.  Whether that is physically stepping out, signing up for a course, making a new habit, etc.  It can manifest in so many ways, but the result is the same.  You will make progress towards your goals.  The first step is the hardest one to take.  Once you take the first one, they get easier for a while until you hit another wall.  That wall is where most people will stop and retreat.  That is where a lot of people will say they tried and failed.  That wall is what will separate the good from the great.  Climbing that next wall will most likely be hard, but it is so necessary for you to continue on you journey to success.  Don’t give up and keep pushing yourself through the gap.

No matter what that gap is in your life find it and figure out a way to get across, no matter what!

Romans 12:2 (NLT)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
