Tired…

What do you do when you are tired?  I tend to want to just sit and do nothing, go to bed early, and do that on repeat until I no longer feel that way.  I did that for a long time, but I try to avoid it now.  These days, I push through those times and still accomplish my daily goals or responsibilities.

It is much easier to just allow ourselves to be apathetic to the needs around us because we are too tired.  It is an excuse that is all too common in our society these days.  It really is just an excuse, not a reason to allow our responsibilities to go undone.  If we allow ourselves to fall into the trap of complacency, we will never be able to achieve everything there is for us in life.

For most of us, pushing through, digging deep, and even just checking things off the list is hard enough when we feel like it and are excited.  It is much harder when we are not feeling it.  That is where most people stop and never make it past.  The magic happens when you achieve something even when you don’t feel like working on it.  That success will drive you to excel no matter how you feel at the time.  You will realize that one decision can change your life.  That one decision is one to be reliable and trustworthy.

Being reliable is key.  If you can be trusted to take care of small responsibilities, you will be able to be trusted to take on bigger responsibilities before too long.  That is how we grow, one step at a time, but it adds up in the end.  Being trustworthy, or full of integrity goes hand in hand with responsibility.  If you cannot be trusted, it will be hard for others, and God to give you more responsibilities.

I see this attitude a lot, especially with the younger generations.  They want everything now.  They don’t want to earn it, they don’t want to work up to it, they want everything they want right now without going through the process of becoming reliable and trustworthy.  Lots of times they want to skip the uncomfortable parts of becoming responsible, and trustworthy, but yet the fruits that come with that are expected immediately.

I’m not picking on just the younger people; there are plenty of people who chose the path of never getting tired just like those young adults.  Being tired is not a punishment, but more of a requirement of growth.  Growth requires us to work hard and push through, even when we feel burnt out.  Start looking at being tired as a badge of honor in certain seasons.  Know you are earning that feeling and will use it to propel yourself forward if you follow through with it.

Proverbs 13:17 (NLT)  An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing.
