Humble Pie...
Have you ever had a big slice of humble pie? I sure have. I was reminded of it over the past weekend. I am a big deer hunter, and I have cellular trail cameras. I had been watching certain deer go to certain spots every day over the past week. I planned to go Saturday morning and get this deer at a certain time, then sneak on over to another area and get another deer. I was so full of confidence that I lost sight of the real reason I enjoy hunting so much.
Well, like what normally happens when we are full of unbridled confidence, the deer didn’t show up and I was disappointed in the hunt. Normally that’s not me, I typically don’t see any deer when I hunt, it is just how hunting in most of south Louisiana is. I typically am looking forward to the peace and time with my thoughts more than harvesting an animal. I realized my actions that evening and immediately felt slightly ashamed of myself. How did I change my principles, and what was important to me, so quickly without even noticing? Harvesting a deer is not important for me, the quiet time is. I just needed a big slice of humble pie to remind me of my priorities in life.
I believe that happens to everyone sometimes. Have you ever started playing a game for fun but ended up getting competitive and were disappointed in the outcome?
I am not a proponent of mediocrity by any means. I go into every day intending to be my best and succeed in everything I do. But at the same time, I try to keep what is most important to me very clear. I want to keep my faith in God in first place, that is still a hard one for me though. My family’s security and needs are next, and then everything else has an order in the hierarchy of importance. This post is about being successful in what is truly important and keeping that in focus. Having goals in life and actually making them happen is a very important, but sometimes we prioritize the wrong ones.
When have you been served a slice of humble pie? How did you react when it happened? Those are times we can look back on in our lives and see where we stand on our path to true freedom and success. I had to take a hard look at my life several months ago, I could either continue the same safe path filled with mediocrity or step out in faith on something new and with the potential to be life changing. The fact that I am even writing this should be enough to tell you which path I chose. I hope my words can inspire you to look at your life and inspire you to step out in faith to achieve your dreams.
