Nobody...
White River, Bull Shoals, AR
This week has been a difficult one. It seemed as though everything was against me. From problems at work, issues at home, and lots of doubts in my head. I struggled with staying motivated to move forward towards my goals, because I felt like a nobody. Who am I to expect to achieve my goals? Am I even worthy of the things I am working toward?
One morning I was on one of my 5 am walks, the song Nobody by Casting Crowns came on. I have heard that song a bunch of times but it spoke to me differently that morning. The chorus says:
“I’m just a nobody, Trying to tell everybody, all about somebody who saved my soul. Ever since you rescued me, you gave my heart a song to sing.”
It tells the story of someone who has been told they are less than for most of their life, and they believe it because of coming up short or failing at times. It shows that Jesus chose imperfect people to change the world. In the lyrics it talks about Moses, David and the twelve disciples, all of whom had their own issues and probably thought they were not worthy.
That song changed my perspective on my week. It made me think about myself and my situation in a different light. We are all here for a different purpose. We have all had different experiences over the course of our lives. We all have a story to tell. Why don’t we see those things? Why do we choose to look at ourselves negatively? Why can’t we choose to see the ways we can use our stories to help others?
Over the weekend, I challenged myself to stay positive, work on my goals, and try to help others. It has honestly been a struggle so far. I am not sure how well I accomplished those things, but I won’t quit trying. My new perspective is that I am an imperfect person, trying to help other imperfect people. I don’t have to be worthy of anything to do that thankfully.
This week I challenge you to go out and make a difference somewhere in the world today. Big or small, it doesn’t matter, but go do it! Thinking about it is good, planning to do it is great, but nothing is better than actually doing it.
1 Corinthians 13: 9-13
