Unexpected Breakthroughs...
An Eagle Hunting Over Chesapeake Bay
Have you ever been ready to give up on something, only to have it work out unexpectedly? I had several of those last week. It really got me thinking of why we tend to give up so easily.
For me, I think it is because I lack self-confidence, or maybe faith, that I will be successful in my endeavors. For so long, I stayed on the path of safety and mediocrity that I honestly don’t know how to push myself and fully believe that I will be successful at what I am trying to accomplish. I have been pushing hard for the past year with very little to show for it other than the pride that comes from acting on some of my dreams.
This past week has been a big one. I had a couple breakthroughs that showed I am on the right track, and I am pushing forward, even when I don’t see it. I am used to seeing the walls, or obstacles in my way. I am not used to recognizing my mind is being the thing holding me back. Even though I thought I was being optimistic and positive, I was undercutting that with uncertainty and doubt without even realizing it.
I know I am not the only one who struggles with those thoughts and beliefs. What are you doubting yourself for? Why are you holding yourself back? Are you trying to keep yourself in the safety zone?
Those are all great questions to ask yourself when you can’t figure out why you are not moving forward towards your goals. There is no reason we have to stay stuck in a situation we don’t want to be in. There is almost always a way we can change our circumstances to improve our lives.
This week try to weed out those self-sabotaging thoughts. Find them and flip them into something positive. Start new habits to help yourself be in a better place mentally, physically and spiritually.
I promise you won’t regret it.
I really like these verses from Galatians 6 : 4-10
4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.
6 Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.
7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Have a great week everyone!
