Where You Belong…

Where you Belong...

Do you know where you belong?  Where are you meant to be? Where do you fit?  These are all questions we constantly ask ourselves and for good reason.  It is easy to focus on what we want, or where we want to be, or even what we should be doing.  It is a whole other thing to make that happen.

Sometimes we try to speed up the process towards our goals.  That is completely fair, and who wouldn’t want to skip the line to get ahead.  The problem is we must prepare ourselves for getting where we want to be.  Most of the time we are not ready.  It can be for all types of reasons, but most of the time we need those hard bumps in the road to shape us into the people we must be in order to succeed.

Skipping the hard road has consequences.  We can burn bridges, ruin careers, trash friendships, and get financially into a pickle.  All those things can be caused by not developing the character needed to be able to handle the reality of being where we belong.  Sometimes we have to struggle with new skills, learn to develop leadership, gain maturity, and how to deal with new levels of responsibility.

I tend to be the one who wants to rush things, I want what I want and I want it now.  I don’t like waiting; I don’t like the grind.  I prefer to have an idea and quickly bring it to life, and it just work like it will in my head.  Unfortunately, it rarely goes to plan.  Either I run into a bunch of roadblocks I had not even considered as a possibility, or I get hit with the new reality and it isn’t what I pictured it would be in my mind.  Lately I have been wrestling with the idea of more growth in my life, but I am being tested daily with my patience, determination, and it is creating doubts in my mind of what is truly possible.  There is nothing wrong with those feelings, it is just part of the process, but a lot of people quit right there and figure their dream isn’t for them.

These tough times should be a reminder that you are not where you belong.  You belong where your dream lives.  You belong where your heart is fulfilled.  You belong where you can be a gift to others around you.  If you look into yourself and realize you are not where you belong, just know there is something else out there for you whether you realize it or not.

“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” Hebrews 13 ; 14 NLT
