Your Big Idea…

Rocket Engines

Why do we resist change most of the time? What is it about having a routine that is comforting? Most people, myself included, do the same things over and over again. We have a routine for our days and weeks. Wake up, exercise, go to work, etc. It is mostly the same every week. Why do we do that?

It’s practical for the most part. We know what works and we choose to stay on that path. We choose the path of least resistance and just maintain our lives. We avoid risk because of the potential failures and problems that can come with changes. A lot of times we fear change.

The problem with being scared to fail is that you won’t grow. That fear will keep you stuck where you are comfortable and where you have always been. Failure can be a good thing if you think of it in the correct context. You will learn more from failure than you ever will winning. Failure will teach you some good hard lessons that will make you better in the long run. If you aren’t failing every now and then, you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough.

That brings me to the big idea. What big idea do you have? What dreams do you have but you have been too scared to pursue? Your dreams should scare you, if they don’t, they are not big enough. Use that fear as fuel to propel yourself towards achieving excellence in whatever you set out to do. If you end up failing, no big deal, learn from it and be willing to change your direction to continue to pursue your big idea.

This past week, I finally tried something new I have been learning about for the past few months. So far it is successful overall. I learned a lot the first week. My first day was actually a failure though. Had I quit right then, I wouldn’t have learned anything from it. I am hoping to continue to learn and work towards mastering this skill, along with everything else I am trying to build in my life right now. One thing I have learned is there is no perfect time to try something new, sometimes you just need to go for it and see what happens.

This week, identify areas that you are not showing up big enough in your life and try create a plan on how to fix those areas. Work on embracing the fear of failure and just go after what you truly want in your life.
