I Depend On You…

My Favorite Flower from Canada

Hey everyone! This is Lacie. I’m Kyle’s wife. We were at a marriage conference this past weekend and he leaned over and said, “I think you should write the blog this week.” I had actually been thinking that as well, so it wasn’t a complete shock.

Kyle and I have walked through a TOUGH year with the loss of our amazing son. While I can’t say I have always been in the best place… trusted God throughout the daily ups and downs of it all…  I will say that if I stay in my own head—focused on things I can’t change—I stay stuck. In that place, all I can see is the problem. All I focus on is the problem. Why are we in this? Why have we gone through this?

To be honest, I have had so much anger. It takes a conscious effort to move forward each day. We all face things and have the choice: to hang on to our past or give it to God and look forward. It’s hard for us to be used by God to help others if we’re holding on to the things that keep us down. The devil wants nothing more than for us to live our whole lives stuck—looking in the past and dwelling on the parts of our life that have happened that we can’t change. What we can do is pick up the pieces. Put one foot in front of the other. Open our mouth and use our past hurts to speak life into someone else. We may not have the same story, yet we all can use some encouragement along the way.

One thing I have done throughout the past few months is end my day writing 3 things I'm thankful for. It allows me to go to bed, “reframing” my day, with the good parts. I find it easy to focus on all the bad. This world is full of negative stuff. It takes intentionality to have a positive mindset, but you will have much better days! Shift your perspective! Trust God. Tell those around you about Him. Not only do we want to have good days while here on Earth, but we also want to spend eternity in Heaven.

One of the songs at church this past weekend said the words “I depend on you.” Sometimes I feel that is our only disposition. God, I depend on you. One prayer I have prayed quite a bit lately is “God, I trust you.” Life may not make sense and can feel overwhelming at times. I challenge you to look for the good. Don’t dwell on the bad. Ask God to show you how to use those rough parts of your life to help others. Show love. Give encouragement. Be a world changer!

This week, I will spend more quiet time listening to God—letting him guide me on my next steps. This is just the beginning. I have more to share with the world. This actually feels pretty good to start sharing. If I can do this, you can too! :)

Psalm 62:5-8:

"I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter. Trust in God at all times, my people".
